Dreams are but an extention of the way we veiw reality.

Yes, this film could very well be a dream. However, it never produced a schitzophrenic  reaction or temporary dilusion in my thoughts or demeanor. I wasn’t sure what this particular “arguement” was supported by, but I am quite certain that the content of this particular film could produce this affect in others. If it is just a dream, it is one that has a clear message for the charachter, as well as viewers. The clarity H.I. sees the world with is quite refreshing at times, and his ironic satire is full of insight that most adult viewers will appreciate and connect with. I never thought that the film was based on the dreams, or visions that H.I. had during his incarcerration. The plot,  theme, and finale are all very believable , and I could very easily trade places with several charachters in the film. I dont believe that the script was written for the purpose of affecting the psyche’ of viewers. In my opinion, the film touches people in a strangely familiar way, and encourages some… to take a closer look at the issues that usually cause stress or discontent, and evaluate the attitudes that provide fuel for useless and self demeaning perceptions . Yes, this film could be labeled “psychogenic”, but it would be a disservice to the creators of a very clever and insightful story.   H.I. resides in all of us at one time or another, and I loved this movie in its entirety. It provided a needed diversion from the reality of a concrete prison cell for me specifically, and it’s one of the very few movies that I could enjoy watching on more than a few occaisions. That makes it a winner, as far as I am concerned.

What does this movie do……?

….to explore boundaries, (in relation to behaviors), the motives or intentions of people that influence our lives, and mankind’s quest for meaning?

In the beginning of this film, H. I. seems to be searching for purpose or reason for his life. Specifically, his current existence in confinement. He questions the authorities’ motive for incarcerrating people in the narrative of his thoughts…it’s one, of two things. “Revenge or rehabilitation”.( Taken from the movie, Raising Arizona) His thoughts are full of insight, perception, personal beliefs about how a man should veiw his values and his duty to be a provider to his family. He decides that Ed is the key to his purpose, and life will be meaningful if she were his wife. He sets uot on a quest to win her affections, and eventually proposes marriage to her. His intent is to put the past behind him and start a new life.I believe his motive is to become a better man.

The fact that Ed accepts his proposal, is an indicator that her personal boundaries are “suspect”. She is clearly in a position that requires adherence to the moral conduct of a state corrections official, yet she makes a choice that could very easily bring negative consequences to her life. The honeymoon is shortlived, and the pressures of responsibility soon start to affect H.I.’s thought processes. He questions his ability to change, and gives in to old patterns of behavior. Ed starts out with what appears to be healthy boundaries, sets the groundrules for their cohabitation, and soon has H.I. content with the daily routine of married life.

When Ed discovers that she is unable to reproduce, things begin to be a chaotic mixture of impulsiveness, self gratification, and self entitlement. Her lack of boundaries, coupled with the obsession to raise a child, leads her and H.I. to a place where it becomes okay to steal a child from Nathan Arizona and his wife.

After they are in posession of young Nathan Jr. , they focus their attentions on him. H.I. Gets a job, and  Ed settles in as a homemaker.

The motives and intent of the people they come into contact with, directly affect the rest of the movie, and alter the course of events. From the brothers taking Nathan Jr., to H.I.’s boss making a pass at Ed. Everyone seems to be intent on using the couple for their own gain.

Greetings! I hope to provide you with lots of laughs in the coming weeks.

This class was at first overwhelming. I have not attended school since 8th grade. I  was reading 12th grade level  material at age 13. Ihave learned to write, spell, comprehend, and communicate while incarcerrated, and I am a very learned individual. I chose to post this information,  because I am passionate about my career choice and the changes I have made in my life.  I want people to understand that anyone can overcome adverse situations if they truly want to. Feel free to ask  questions, comment on my blog, or provide feedback on this post in particular. This class is very challenging for me, and I could use some encouragement . Please do not be afraid to approach me! I am not a weirdo, a deviant, or any form of undesireable charachter. I will always treat everyone with respect and dignity. I am a deeply cynical person at times, and I see irony in almost everything. My wit tends to be touched with sarcasm, but I’m not always so serious. I would like to hear from you if you have an opinion, an idea, or a belief that makes you look at me in a different light in relation to my history. I will  close by stating that I am a recovering addict. My father was an addict, and so is my son. There are more than 30 chemically dependent people in my family. I grew up in a culture that encouraged addictive behaviors, and I have been struggling to find a healthier, more productive way of life for more than 20 years. I will leave you to draw your own conclusions from this blog, and I would encourage you to comment. What do you think will help me continue changing? How can I  identify with peers ? Is there a stigma attatched to addicts? How would you look at me if I told you I was a felon? Did I share too much information? I am writing an autobiography. Would you be interested in reading the 3 chapters I have drafted thus far? Before this blog becomes a book, I regretfully have to stop writing. Until next time…….Goodnight.
